Harry Hepworth
Harry Hepworth is a British gymnast who specialises in vault, rings and floor. At Paris 2024 he won vault bronze, Team GB's first Olympic medal on vault, and became the first British gymnast to reach an Olympic rings final.
Harry Hepworth’s vault bronze at Paris 2024 gave Team GB its first Olympic medal on the apparatus, and his rings final at the same Games was another British first.
Significance
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Hepworth won bronze in the vault final, Team GB’s first Olympic medal on vault. At the same Games he became the first British gymnast to reach an Olympic rings final, where he finished seventh, and he was part of the team that finished fourth. He has since won European team titles with Great Britain in 2025 and 2026.
Background
Hepworth was born in 2003 and began gymnastics at the age of eight at Pennine Gymnastics Club in Honley, after a coach gave a demonstration at his primary school. He now trains at Leeds Gymnastics Club, where his coaches are Andy Butcher, Dave Murray and Tom Rawlinson. Unlike Joe Fraser, he is a specialist rather than an all-around gymnast, competing at major championships mainly on vault, rings and floor.
Major championships
- Olympic Games — at Paris 2024, vault bronze, seventh in the rings final and fourth with the team.
- European Championships — team silver in 2024 (Rimini), then team gold and floor silver in 2025 (Leipzig) and team gold and floor bronze in 2026 (Zagreb).
- World Championships — he has reached several apparatus finals without yet winning a world medal. In Rotterdam in 2026 he was part of the team that finished fourth and finished sixth in the vault final.
He won the British rings title in March 2026.
How vault medals are won
Vault finals are decided differently from other apparatus: each gymnast performs two vaults from different groups and the scores are averaged, so a medal needs two high-value, well-landed vaults on the day. See men’s vault and vault numbers and groups.
Where his career fits
Hepworth’s medals add vault to the growing list of apparatus on which British men win at the highest level, alongside Jake Jarman on floor and vault and Joe Fraser in the all-around and on parallel bars and high bar. For the full Olympic timeline, see British gymnastics at the Olympics.
