About Gymnastics Explained
Gymnastics Explained is an independent reference guide to artistic gymnastics for fans, families, newcomers and recreational gymnasts. It explains apparatus, skills, scoring, competitions and pathways in plain English, with a UK context throughout.
Who runs the site
Gymnastics Explained is created, owned and edited by Claire McDonald, a sports enthusiast and independent web designer from Scotland. Claire is responsible for the site and its editorial decisions. She is not presented as a gymnastics coach, judge or technical expert.

Editorial approach
This is a reference site, not a news outlet: it does not publish live scores, breaking news or routine-by-routine reporting. Content is built from cited sources, listed at the foot of each page. A qualified technical reviewer has not yet been appointed, so pages have not been independently reviewed by a gymnastics technical expert, and each page says so. Pages on rules, scoring and pathways are especially likely to change and need regular review.
Gymnastics Explained is independently produced and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by World Gymnastics (FIG), British Gymnastics, the IOC, or any competition organiser.
