Alice Kinsella
Alice Kinsella is a British all-arounder whose favourite apparatus is beam: Great Britain's first European beam champion, an Olympic team bronze medallist at Tokyo 2020, a world team silver medallist and a three-time Commonwealth champion for England.
Since 2018, Alice Kinsella has won medals at Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth level, most of them as an all-around gymnast in Great Britain’s and England’s teams.
Significance
In 2019 Kinsella became the first British gymnast to win a European beam title, in Szczecin. She was part of the British team that won bronze at Tokyo 2020 — Great Britain’s first Olympic women’s team medal since 1928 — and of the teams that won world silver in 2022 and Great Britain’s first European women’s team title in 2023. For England, she has won five Commonwealth Games medals, three of them gold.
Background
Kinsella was born in 2001 in Basildon, Essex, and trains at Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club in Telford, coached by Christine Still and Brett Ince. She is an all-arounder, competing on all four women’s apparatus; she has described balance beam as her favourite and strongest.
Commonwealth Games
Competing for England, Kinsella won beam gold, team silver and all-around bronze at Gold Coast 2018, then team gold and floor gold at Birmingham 2022. See Commonwealth Games artistic gymnastics.
European and World Championships
- 2019, Szczecin — European beam champion.
- 2022, Munich and Liverpool — European team and all-around silver, then world team silver at the home World Championships in Liverpool.
- 2023, Antalya — European team champion, with floor silver.
- 2024, Rimini — European all-around bronze and team silver.
The Olympic Games
Kinsella competed at two Olympic Games. At Tokyo 2020 she won team bronze; at Paris 2024, Great Britain finished fourth in the team final.
Return in 2026
Kinsella did not compete in 2025 following the birth of her son, which she announced publicly, and returned at the British Championships in March 2026. At the 2026 World Championships in Rotterdam she qualified for two finals, finishing 13th in the all-around and eighth on floor.
Where her career fits
Kinsella’s results span the period in which British women’s gymnastics became a regular team medal contender. For the full Olympic timeline, see British gymnastics at the Olympics; for more on her strongest apparatus, see balance beam.
