Inquiry

A formal challenge to a D-score, submitted by a coach within two minutes of the score appearing. Only the difficulty score can be inquired.

An inquiry is the only formal way to challenge a score. Under the FIG Technical Regulations 2025:

  • Only the D-score can be inquired — execution, artistry and penalties can’t. (Time and line deductions and bonuses can be reviewed through a separate, free request.)
  • Who: only a designated national federation representative — a coach or delegation member, never a judge.
  • When: within two minutes of the score being displayed.
  • Review: the President of the Superior Jury reviews the routine using official footage only, and the score can go up, down or stay the same.
  • Cost: 300 Swiss francs for the first inquiry, 500 for the second and 1,000 for each one after that, refunded only if the D-score is increased.

The decision is final: it can’t be appealed inside or outside the FIG, including to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
