Composition requirement
In women's gymnastics, one of four required skill types on bars, beam and floor, each worth 0.50 towards the D-score.
Composition requirements make sure a routine shows a well-rounded mix of skills, rather than repeating one type. In the 2025–2028 WAG Code of Points, uneven bars, balance beam and floor each have four, worth 0.50 each, up to 2.00:
- Uneven bars: a flight from the high bar to the low bar; a flight on the same bar; skills in different grips; and a non-flight element with at least a 360° turn.
- Balance beam: a connection of two different dance elements, one with a 180° split or straddle; a turn; an acrobatic series with a salto; and acrobatic skills in different directions.
- Floor: a travelling dance passage; a salto with at least a full twist; a double salto; and saltos forward and backward.
They work as credit, not a deduction: a routine that misses one simply doesn’t earn that 0.50. One skill can fulfil more than one requirement, but a skill can’t be repeated later to fulfil another.
Men’s gymnastics uses a different system — element groups. Vault has no composition requirements, as a vault is a single skill.
